What to Expect from the Land and Site Prep Process

Before construction can begin on any structure, the site must first be prepared. Our team at S&E Custom Grading & Concrete has extensive experience in providing land and site prep services, and we are here to help you get your site ready for construction. In this article, we will provide a brief overview of how the preparation process works so you know what to expect.

What to Expect from the Land and Site Prep Process

  • Assessment – The first step in land and site prep is to assess the site. Our team will survey your land, making note of any topographical features, boulders, trees, or other obstacles we will need to deal with. We’ll then use this information to make a plan for the rest of the preparation work.
  • Clearing – The next step in land and site prep is to clear the land to make room for the planned structures. Typically, this involves removing trees, shrubs, and other brush from the ground, as well as removing any large rocks.
  • Excavation – After our team has cleared away any trees, rocks, or other obstructions, we’ll take another pass over the site with excavators and earth movers to level the ground. Our team will also take care of any necessary digging for the planned structure—for example, we will excavate areas for the basement and foundation.
  • Grading – A fourth key step in land and site prep is grading the land, or adjusting the slope to ensure water flows away from any structures. This step is essential for protecting the finished structure from water damage, so our team takes time to check our work and make sure the grade is just right.
